Pollon with Strings
Wer mehrere musikalische Sprachen spricht, muss sich nicht zwangsläufig auf eine festlegen. Theresia Philipp begreift das genauso: In ihrem Doppeltrio‑Projekt Pollon with Strings vereinen sich unterschiedliche klangliche Traditionen ohne Hierarchie.
Die Kernbesetzung besteht aus Philipp (Saxophon & Klarinette), David Helm (Bass) und Thomas Sauerborn (Schlagzeug). Durch die Einbindung eines Streichtrios wird die Besetzung zu einem Doppeltrio erweitert. Philipp hat die Stücke dieses Projekts komponiert und arrangiert. Musikalisch bewegt sich das Projekt über mehrere Felder: Philipp verarbeitet liturgische Gesänge der orthodoxen Kirche (etwa in „Trishagion“) ebenso wie ein neu interpretiertes „Vaterunser“-Gebet. Gleichzeitig gibt es moderne, sehr präzise komponierte Passagen („Secret Reality“) und Stücke, die Schwindel („Vertigo“) oder die Suche nach Wahrheit („Simple Truth“) thematisieren.
Vieles ist sorgfältig auskomponiert und wird mit großer Disziplin gespielt. Manchmal steckt die Musik voller Freiräume, die genauso diszipliniert mehrdeutig und mehrsprachig ausgestaltet werden. Pollon with Strings bildet keine bloße Addition von Verschiedenem, sondern ist eine Zusammenkunft, ein musikalisches Ereignis von großer Kohärenz, die ihre Stärken im Mehrdeutigen hat.

Those who speak several musical languages do not necessarily have to commit to just one. Theresia Philipp understands this perfectly: in her double trio project Pollon with Strings, different musical traditions come together without hierarchy.
The core line-up consists of Philipp (saxophone & clarinet), David Helm (bass) and Thomas Sauerborn (drums). The addition of a string trio expands the ensemble into a double trio. Philipp composed and arranged the pieces for this project. Musically, the project spans several genres: Philipp incorporates liturgical chants from the Orthodox Church (for example, in “Trishagion”) as well as a reinterpreted “Lord's Prayer”. At the same time, there are modern, very precisely composed passages (“Secret Reality”) and pieces that deal with vertigo (“Vertigo”) or the search for truth (“Simple Truth”).
Much of it is carefully composed and played with great discipline. Sometimes the music is full of open spaces, which are just as disciplined, ambiguous, and multilingual in their design. Pollon with Strings is not merely an addition of different elements, but a coming together, a musical event of great coherence that draws its strength from ambiguity.
